"ZUU" by Denzel Curry

Denzel Curry has been one of the hottest up and comers in hip hop for some time now and after last year's "TA13OO" I really wasn't expecting to hear from him again so quickly. But following a similar path laid by Vince Staples' "FM!", Curry has returned less than a year since his last release with a fun and free spirited 29 minute banger in "ZUU". While "TA13OO" was a bit long winded and a little too beholden to it's three act structure - "ZUU" feels absolutely unhinged, in the best possible way. Hip hop has taken an incredibly serious, socially conscious tone as of late (for obvious reasons) and this record feels like a flashback to the wild and reckless summer anthems of yesteryear. A much needed unwinding from the constant tension we seem to be managing on a daily basis. This is Denzel's love letter to the hypnotic Miami club favorites he grew up with and his passion comes through in every song. The hooks are absolutely top notch, the production will have your head rocking from start to finish and so its so goddamn catchy that you'll likely start it right back over again without even noticing. It's one of those CDs that will sit in your stereo and play the whole way through 2-3 times before you put something else in. Even if it's a little shallow and the energy dips a little around the intermission, this is destined to be one of the most prominent sounds of the summer and absolutely deserves to be.
